TAKS Retesting in October

Judy Stewart Principal

We want to remind all senior parents that October is the month for TAKS retesting for seniors.  We have been working hard to get students prepared for this testing and we hope that you will support your seniors to take this test seriously and to do their very best.—because graduation depends on this testing.  So many times our kids want to rush through these tests to get to their classes or to after school events.  We need them to take all the time they need to do the test and do it well.  Please talk to them about this and give them encouragement.  We had a student several years ago who stayed here until nearly 7:00 p.m. and was late to a basketball game, but he told us that he felt that the test was that important because he wanted to graduate.

We have been working hard to get students prepared for this testing and we hope that parents will support your seniors to take this test seriously and to do their very best.—because graduation depends on this testing.

Please be sure that your kids get a good night’s sleep the night before the section or sections.  Please make sure they eat a good breakfast of some kind before they come to school.  We will have some snacks that day, but they can bring some drinks and snacks with them.  Have them wear comfortable clothing—yes, it still needs to meet dress code—because they will be sitting a lot.

Since school has started, we have been working hard and long with the seniors. These are the strategies we have implemented for support as appropriate for student needs:

Ø      TAKS class for all seniors

Ø      Online instruction through Nova Net

Ø      Credit recovery

Ø      ESL class for extra support with language development

Ø      Daily TAKS practice in each area not passed

Ø      TAKS tutorials by core area teachers

Ø      One-on-one remediation with with teachers within the system

Ø      Varied TAKS support materials both written and online

Ø      Practice TAKS testing
