School Days Are Here Again
Bryan Wood, SHS Principal
Yes, they are here again!!! School has started for the 2008-2009 year. The summer has flown by and I know some of you spent those days before school began scrambling to get school clothes and school supplies, trying to work in one more long weekend getaway, and trying to figure out how we can get everything accomplished by the first day of school.
School began again with students at Sunray High School on Monday, August 25, 2008. This was somewhat later again this year, but most of us enjoyed the extra week—but will we remember that enjoyment in May when we are here an extra week? So parents and students, it is time to get back into the routine of meetings, concerts, studying for classes, athletic events, homework, TAKS preparation, band practices, cross country meets, and all the other activities that are already on the calendar for 2008-2009. I will also start our parent-community emails again in a few days that will keep you updated on school announcements and activities. If you are not on that list and would like to be or if your email address has changed, please email me at school and let me know: (bryan.wood@region16.net).
We have several new staff members this year who will be working with our students here at the high school. I will be assuming the role of the high school principal this year. We have Sandi Wheeler who will be teaching English and Social Studies. Kim Lee, Leanne Holloway, Sid Whiteley, and Kurt Haberthur are moving up from the other campuses. Leanne is our new Family & Consumer Science teacher; Kurt Haberthur will be teaching PE and our Teen Leadership classes. Kim Lee is the new Learning Lab teacher, and Sid Whiteley will be teaching math and coaching. We are excited that these quality educators are moving to the high school this year. Keri Walden is the new high school counselor. We have a group of dedicated staff in place at SHS who kicked of the 2008-2009 school year on August 25. We appreciate all of our staff—both the new and the returning staff members. Our teachers, secretaries, paraprofessionals, bus drivers, custodians, cafeteria staff, and maintenance personnel are a great group here at Sunray ISD. Each one gives his or her best effort to make sure that we help students here at Sunray High School get a quality education. We are also appreciative that our parents are joining us as partners in the education of our students. We are glad that they are interested in their child’s education and are involved in that process with us. It is great to be a part of a school system where everyone works together to see that the students needs are met.
We are looking forward to the 2008-2009 school year! Come be a part of another school year with us here in Sunray. Come by and visit with the new principal.
