Teen Leadership

It is our job, as educators, to build the leaders of the future and that is why we have chosen to begin implementing this program.

Developing Leaders for the Future

Beginning in the spring, Sunray ISD will implement a program called Teen Leadership.  This program was developed by Flip Flippen.  It is designed to develop the leadership qualities of students by developing relationships.  In today society, leadership is a very hot topic.  It is something that our school board, administration, and teacher often discuss.  It is our job, as educators, to build the leaders of the future and that is why we have chosen to begin implementing this program.

There are so many different concepts that a great leader must understand.  Concepts that will be taught and discussed include:  attitude, public speaking, self-confidence, persistence and optimism, image, values and standards, managing money, peer pressure, creative thinking, taking responsibility, goals and vision.

In order to implement this training, the school was required to have teachers trained by the Flippen Group.  Coach Haberthur and I have both received the training within the last six months.  Coach Haberthur will be teaching the 7th and 8th grade students, and I will be teaching the high school students beginning in January.  In the future, we hope that we will be able to offer this course to all students at some point during their high school years; however, this spring only a select group will be able to participate in the Teen Leadership Training.

If you have any questions about the program, or if you would like more information, feel free to contact any of our administration, Coach Haberthur, or myself.
