Sunray Middle School is in their busiest time of the year. We have only seven weeks of school left and things are winding down here.
Jr. High athletics ended on the 31st of this month with the Jr. High athletes finishing up at the district track meet winning the 8th grade boys and girls divisions, and others finishing with their best times and distances of the year.
The Jr. High band will compete at contest on the 23rd of April at Canyon. Only their public concert will be remaining for them and this will be on May 20th will all of the school bands participating in this.
Right now the TAKS test is on everybody’s mind. Our 5th and 8th graders have already taken the reading test and both grades did very well. The Math test will be given to the same grade levels on the 8th of this month. The remaining grade levels and the re-takes of these tests will be given the last week of April.
We still have several field trips for the kids including a trip to Palo Duro Canyon for the 5th and 6th graders, a trip to the discovery center for the 5th and 6th graders, a trip to Wonderland Park for the students that have earned the Paw Pride trip, the superintendent’s honor roll trip, and our 8th graders will be going on a “college day” trip to Frank Phillips college. The academic awards night is May 27th at 6:00, and the best part of the school year for the kids is May 29th when we dismiss for summer at noon.
These are all of the things on our schedule right now, and this doesn’t include all of the lessons that they are being taught every day in the classroom. Students, parents, and teachers alike are all stretched so thin they can barely stay caught up. But that is what keeps us in Sunray, staying busy all the time keeps you young and out of trouble.
