The New School Year

I am sure everyone had a great summer and is anxious to start the new school year. The beginning of school is just a few weeks away.  It is an exciting time of year to see how much the students have grown over the summer and ready to take on the new challenges for the upcoming school year.

We have two new teachers in the elementary this year.  Melissa McAlister will be teaching first grade and she is married to the new head football coach.  Kendra Sotelo will be teaching mainly third and fourth grade math.  We are glad to have Melissa and Kendra at Sunray Elementary.  They will be great additions to a great staff.  Also, our new paraprofessional is Darla Worley.  She is not new to Sunray ISD but she is moving from the middle school to elementary and we are glad to have her too.

Teachers are busy preparing for the upcoming school year.  We will have training for all staff starting on Aug. 3rd for ELPS.  The week of August 10th, we have training for C-Scope and new teacher/faculty orientation.  The faculty will have a full week of training during the week of August 17th.    School will then start on August 24th.

New technology will be in most of the classrooms for this upcoming school year.  Smart Boards will be installed in several classrooms and they will be a great interactive tool for the students and teachers to use in the classroom.  The teachers will have Smart Board training on August 4th and 5th.  We hope to have Smart Boards installed in every classroom in the near future.

I am looking forward to the start of another exciting year at Sunray Elementary.  I will be sending out e-mails weekly to inform parents, grandparents, and the community on upcoming events.  If you would like to be on the elementary e-mail list, please e-mail me at terry.mulbery@region16.net.  If you have any questions, do not hesitate to come by my office or call me at 948-4222 ext. 399.
