Back to School
August 8, 2011
Sunray High School
Welcome to the 2011-2012 school year. A new school year is upon us, with that comes excitement, eagerness, and a little uncertainty. We never know what each day will hold, therefore; we must embrace each day and look at it as an opportunity. I am excited to see returning students, meet new students and welcome the freshmen to our campus. I am eager to see what great things our students accomplish this year, whether it is in the academic or athletic arena.
School will begin with students at Sunray High School on Monday, August 22, 2011. This year our bell schedule has some changes. The first bell will ring at 8:00 am with classes beginning at 8:04 and the school day will end at 3:37 pm. Tutorials will be held from 12:14-12:34 with lunch from 12:34 – 1:09 pm. Boys athletics has moved from fifth period to the end of the day during eighth period at 2:51 to 3:37 pm.
On August 22, 2011, we will be hosting our annual Fish Camp. Freshmen students will attend school at 11:45 am and then we will have a hamburger cookout and swim party at Treasure Island beginning at 6:30 pm. Sophomores, juniors, seniors will attend school from 8:04 – 11:30 am on that day.
We are welcoming a several new staff members this year. Keifer Dutton and Rebekah Howard will be coaching and teaching Social Studies and English. Liliana Alvarez is the new Spanish teacher. Emily Armer will also be teaching Social Studies. The new band director is Nicole Shanks. We are also excited that Kurt Haberthur is back in Sunray as the athletic director/football coach. It is a pleasure to welcome them to SHS.
Sunray High School is committed to educating every student for the 21 st Century. It is our mission at Sunray High School to be a school that provides a positive, learner-centered environment that fosters academic excellence, creativity, and life-long learning so that all students graduate from SHS fully prepared to meet their future educational and employment goals. I look forward to seeing you in August!
